Semi-Auto Rifle Match

Note: This match replaced the AR15 Rifle Match effective 17 Feb 08.  AR15s may be used in this match and will compete along with other semi-autos.

TIME: 1130 AM or immediately following the Vintage Service Rifle Match.

COST: Members and their guests, $2.00 per firearm.  Visitors, $8.00 per firearm.  

EQUIPMENT:  Any semi-automatic rifle that uses detachable magazines. This includes models that feature fixed or collapsible stocks, fixed or removable carry handles, barrels of any length or diameter, with or without muzzle device.  All optics and iron sights are allowed.  Full-auto variations must be mechanically limited to semi-auto only.  Pistol versions of rifles are not allowed.  Each shooter needs 2 magazines capable of holding at least 5 rounds each.  Targets will be provided.

AMMO: Minimum of 40 rounds of any centerfire caliber per shooter.  Pistol calibers are acceptable.  No rimfire, tracers or armor-piercing allowed. 

SAFETY:  Eye and ear protection are mandatory.  Open bolt indicators (OBI) must be used at all times except during the preparation period and firing.  OBIs are available at range for $2.00 each.  Obey all commands given by match director.  Violators will be asked to leave. Do not handle firearms while others are downrange.

ACTUAL DISTANCE: 100 yds   TARGET: SR-1, 200yd scaled to 100yd (21" X 21"). 

CLASSES OF SHOOTERS: Those using iron sights will be grouped in the
limited class. Those using optics such as scopes, red-dot and holographic sights
and lasers will be grouped in the unlimited class.  Ensure score sheets are
marked appropriately.
 
EQUIPMENT: Eye and ear protection REQUIRED. Shooting jackets, gloves

and ground mat permitted. Spotting scopes are permitted but must not interfere with adjacent shooters. 

 

 

FIRING ORDER: 

Magazine changes are required during all rapid fire stages.  If you have physical limitations that prevent you from comfortably shooting in certain positions, please inform the match director.

 
SIGHTERS (OPTIONAL): 5 Rounds - 5 Minutes, any position.
 
STAGE 1. Preparation time – 3 minutes
Prone slow fire, 10 rounds in 5 minutes from the prone position.  Shooters may use one or two magazines, 10 rounds total.  Sling permitted.  Magazine change
NOT required.
 
STAGE 2. Preparation time – 3 minutes
Prone rapid fire, 10 rounds in sixty (60) seconds with a reload from the prone
position. Shooters load two magazines with five rounds each. Shooters start in
prone position. Sling permitted. Magazine change IS required
 
STAGE 3. Preparation time – 3 minutes
Sitting rapid fire, 10 rounds in sixty (60) seconds with reload from the sitting
position. Shooters load two magazines with five rounds each. Shooters start in
sitting position. Sling permitted. Magazine change IS required.
 
STAGE 4. Preparation time – 3 minutes
Standing Slow Fire, 10 rounds in 5 minutes. Shooters may use one or two magazines, 10 rounds total. Sling not used, but may remain attached to rifle. Magazine change
NOT required.
 
OPTIONAL BONUS STAGE. Preparation time – 3 minutes
ANY POSITION USED IN STAGES 1-4 (Target will be provided).  5 rounds in
60 seconds, Sling permitted. This score is not included in Aggregate but will be
used to break any ties.  
 
MALFUNCTIONS DURING MATCH: Notify the Match Director immediately if a
rifle or ammunition malfunctions by raising hand overhead until acknowledged by
range officer, keep muzzle down range until range officer provides direction.
 
COACHING: Coaching is permitted as long as it does not interfere with other shooters.
 
SCORING:
  • Shooter scores and repairs own target between stages.
  • Score sheets will be provided and collected at the end of the match
  • For a shot touching the line between the scoring ring of the target, the
  • competitor will be credited with the higher value.
  • A shot on the wrong target (crossfire) will be counted as a miss.
  • A shot fired after time period has elapsed; the highest point on that target
  • will be deducted.
  • Targets with more than required shots per stage, looses high point hits.
  • Ties broken by optional stage.
  • A match director decisions are final. 
1. Score target first, then repair target.  After last stage, safe weapons, remove
target from frame and provide score sheets to Match Director.
 
2. Next relay (if needed) will then post their targets.
 
3. Previous relay will remove equipment from firing line and pickup brass.
 
4. Match Director will notify the next relay to bring their equipment to the firing
line, bolts open, OBI in place. Do Not Handle Firearms while personnel are down
range.
 
5. Last fired relay post scores on score board
 
6. Scores announced and Marksmanship Certificates awarded after final scores
are posted and Firing Line secured by Chief Range Officer.
 
AWARDS: Certificate of Marksmanship for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each class.
