MILITARY SERVICE RIFLE MATCH (Pre-1945)

This is a club match, not a CMP/NRA sanctioned/approved match. If you are unable or have difficulty assuming a shooting position inform the match director.
The course of fire: 40 rounds for record + 5 sighters + 5 rounds bonus stage = 50 rounds COMPETITOR PROVIDES OWN AMMUNITION
SIGHTERS: 5 Rounds - 5 Minutes, from bench or any stage position.
STAGE 1. Preparation time – 3 minutes
Prone slow fire, 10 rounds in ten (10) minutes from the prone position. Sling permitted. Maybe single loaded or loaded from magazine.
STAGE 2. Preparation time – 3 minutes
Prone rapid fire, 10 rounds in eighty (80) seconds with a reload from the prone position. Garand begins with 2 rounds loaded and reloads with 8 rounds, bolt actions and others typically begin with 5 rounds loaded and reload with 5 rounds. Detachable magazine types will usually need two magazines loaded with 5 rounds each for the rapid fire stages. Shooters start in prone position. Sling permitted.
STAGE 3. Preparation time – 3 minutes
Sitting rapid fire, 10 rounds in eighty (80) seconds with reload from the sitting position. Shooters start in sitting position. Sling permitted.
STAGE 4. Preparation time – 3 minutes
Standing slow fire, 10 rounds in ten (10) minutes. Sling not used, but may remain attached to rifle. Maybe single loaded or loaded from magazine.
BONUS STAGE. Preparation time – 3 minutes
POSITION TBD, COULD BE ANY USED IN STAGES 1-4 (Target will be provided), 5 rounds in (TIME TBD). Sling permitted. This score is not included in Aggregate.
DISTANCE: 100 yds
TARGET: Normally SR-1, but you never know what may be substituted.
RIFLE: A centerfire Military Service Rifle in safe operating condition routinely issued prior to 1946 (WWII and earlier) by the USA or foreign government. Commercial equivalent reproductions may be used. The firearm should be in original type configuration. Original type military metallic sights stocks, barrels, triggers, etc are permitted. Taller front sights to permit 100yd zero and government arsenal updates to pre 1946 designs are permitted, such as Garands, Mausers or Lee-Enfields updated to 7.62X51 NATO, M48 Yugos. No scopes, red-dots, lasers, etc. Full auto (with functioning full auto or burst fire selectors) capable rifles will be in Semi mode only.
EQUIPMENT: Eye and ear protection REQUIRED. Shooting jackets, shooting glove and ground mat permitted and recommended. Spotting scopes are permitted but must not interfere with adjacent shooters. Military style slings are permitted and maybe used in all positions, except for standing. Approved CMP/NRA open bolt indicators (OBI) are required to be used at all times except during the preparation period and firing. OBIs available at range for $1.00 each.
MALFUNCTIONS DURING MATCH: Notify the Range Officer immediately if a rifle or ammunition malfunctions by raising hand overhead until acknowledged by range officer, keep muzzle down range until range officer provides direction.
AMMUNITION: Supplied by the competitor. Any centerfire commercial, military BALL or handloaded ammunition which is safe for the intended rifle. NO tracers or incendiaries.
COACHING: Coaching is permitted.
SCORING:
- Honor System: Shooter scores and repairs own target
- Score sheet will be provided.
- A shot touching the line between the scoring divisions of the target, the competitor will be credited with the higher value.
- A shot on the wrong target (crossfire) will be counted as a miss. Recipient of crossfire throws out lowest scored shot if same caliber.
- A shot fired after time period has elapsed; the highest point on that target will be deducted.
- Ties broken by count down from highest scored shot on that stage, standing scores used for aggregate.
- Rangemaster calls firing line commands and runs time
AWARDS: First, Second, and Third Certificates for match and Certificate for winner of bonus stage.
